Rollout for staff

Over the past few days, we have begun rolling out iPods to teaching staff. Despite a few requests to the "people that matter", I got no recommendations as to which staff should be given the iPods. So, I made my best guess, and began distribution.

Since starting the rollout for staff, several staff have asked "what do I do with it?" type questions. Therefore, I have asked our Head of eLearning to devise a training course to get staff up and running....covering such topics as connecting to your iPod to your laptop, synching Calendars, email, bookmarks, etc...and using the App Store. We'll see how this idea progresses.

Our staff have a slightly different iPod setup to our students...they connect to our "Staff" wireless network, meaning that they can access the Internet without going through our web proxy. I assume that staff will be a little more responsible than students in their Internet usage.

  1. Hi Dave,

I have just returned from a conference regarding ICT connections-buildings-and community in Education. Some really interesting learning going on around the world (and in Tassie) using all forms of technology. However, there is a conference in Melbourne in July that is all about using the IPOD Touch as a learning tool in the classrooom. I think it would be an excellent conference for some Year 7 teachers to attend. Will pass on details once I get more information from the conveynor-only just being organised I believe.

Thanks for the information about the credit card- not so much a problem for me as only I will use this-but this is an area that parents might rightly be very cautious about. I must admit when I was asked for my details, I was not too keen initially!

  2. Hi Penny,

I think the conference is a great idea. You should share this information with the eLearning Team.

Re: the credit cards...we need to devise a way of setting up accounts so that no students (ie those without a computer at home) are not disadvantaged, and to alleviate the concerns of parents giving their credit card details to children. Lots to do in this area!
